Momofuku to open in Toronto… sometime.

Famed Korean restaurant to open in July. Or maybe August. But definitely in time for TIFF.

After months of speculation, Momofuko’s David Chang revealed last week in an interview with New York magazine that the three restaurants he is creating for the new Shangri-la Hotel at University and Adelaide will open July 28.

Two days later, his office adjusted the time-frame to the month of August.

“Lucky Peach will be the first floor. Daisho is the third floor. Or the whole thing is Daisho? I don’t even know,” says Chang. “I’m still scared shitless.”

And so he should be as the luxury condo-hotel complex that will house the latest outpost of the Momofuku empire looks nowhere near completion, let alone ready for the inevitable TIFF parties come September.

Chang might also want to apply for the liquor license required to host those galas, something neither he nor the team behind the upcoming launch of London’s Soho House in the hotel’s reno of the old Pretzel Bell at Adelaide and Simcoe have bothered to do.

September? Peach will be lucky to be open by Thanksgiving, the American one in late November.
